Papers of William S. and William N. Barnard, including illustrated notes on local fauna made by William S. Barnard while in Brazil in 1870; correspondence relating to the Barnards from 1883-1913 and 1935-1936; transcripts of testimony in patent infringement lawsuits; and patents awarded to William S. or William N. Barnard. Much of the correspondence concerns patents and patent infringements; letters of 1935-1936 concern research on William S. Barnard. Correspondents include Burt Green Wilder, patent attorney Philip T. Dodge, William S. Barnard's wife Mary N. Barnard, D.C. Wilgus of Wilgus Manufacturing Company, William N. Barnard, attorney F.M. Biographical / Historical

William S. Barnard was a zoologist and inventor who graduated from Cornell University in 1871 and subsequently lived in Des Moines, Iowa. His son William N. Barnard was an engineer who obtained his degree in mechanical engineering at Cornell in 1897 and then joined the faculty there.
