Scope and content
Printout of photographs and documents, including the 423 Bomb Squadron in Wendover, Utah, 1942; clippings; medals; honorable discharge certificate; Cornell diploma; photographs of him and his wife; and a photograph of him at his 90th birthday in 2013. Also an oral history recorded March 24, 2015 with Evan Earle, a WW2 aviation enthusiast and Cornell University archivist. Sawicke describes his time in the military and experiences flying over Europe during World War II. Conversation includes training in Utah, and using his pay to support his mother in Moravia, the name of his plane, tasks as a B-17 engineer, flight conditions, base life, the Norden bombsite. He then discusses his time spent at Cornell University on the G.I. bill living in Vetsburg, and his post college career as a contractor. Disc also contains photos of items and a photo of Sawicke with some of his medals in his basement.

Biographical / Historical
Cornell University Class of 1950. During World War II, he flew in B-17 Flying Fortresses including, Chennault's Pappy III, as a gunner and engineer over Germany in the Army Air Corps, winning the Distinguished Flying Cross and oak leaf clusters. He flew with the 423 Bomb Squadron, 306th Bomb Group. After the war, he attended Cornell University, College of Agriculture, graduating in 1949.
