Biographical / Historical

American archivist and collector of Americana. Kellar built the McCormick collection (which began with the papers of Cyrus Hall McCormick) into the largest and finest collection on American agricultural history, and served as director of the McCormick Historical Association of Chicago, which was chartered in 1931 to continue this work. When the McCormick heirs presented the collection to the Wisconsin State Historical Society in 1951, Kellar moved to Madison, and he spent the rest of his life coordinating the Society's agricultural materials with those of the McCormick collection. Kellar was one of the founders of the Society of American Archivists, its vice president in 1941, and a member of its governing Council from 1941-1946.
