Finger Lakes Librarians' Social Responsibilities Round Table minutes

 Collection — manuscript box: 54 - folder 1
Identifier: 2989m

Scope and content

Typewritten summaries of two meetings held in Ithaca, New York in the fall of 1969, on October 30 and November 6, for interested librarians in the Ithaca-Cortland area to consider possibly founding a new permanent professional group, tentatively named the Finger Lakes Librarians' Social Responsibilities Round Table. Issues of interest to the group included improving communication among local librarians, recruiting African Americans for local library jobs, encouraging greater tolerance toward controversial library materials, supporting election reform within the American Library Association, lobbying locally for funding and materials, and supporting sex education in libraries.
