6 items including two copies of a typewritten manuscript with one illustration (a photograph of the school's founder). Also, three manuscript letters (one with envelope) relating to the history of the school. The manuscript (whose author is named on page 42) includes lists of the successive principals and graduates of the School.

Biographical / Historical

Sherwood Select School was a Quaker high school in Sherwood, New York, founded by Hepsibeth C. Hussey in 1871. In 1926, it became part of a consolidated public school system under the name Sherwood Central School. Helen S. Judson (1885-1973) served as a teacher and then principal between 1909 and 1919. Emily Howland (1827-1929), Quaker educator and humanitarian, was a major supporter of the School until her death in 1929, and the school was known as Emily Howland Central School from 1937-1948. Phebe M. King was successively a student, teacher, and principal of the School.
