Scope and content

Collection consists mainly of articles on the history of Little Britain by Margaret V.S. Wallace, published in the Orange County Post from 1967-1979. Also included are a commencement program from Union College (1850), an autograph book signed by various Union College students or alumni (mainly 1850), and a newspaper clipping on the old New Windsor Presbyterian Church (1958). The autograph book evidently belonged to R. Howard Wallace. Also included are two pamphlets on aspects of Orange County history.

Biographical / Historical

Little Britain is an area in the Town of New Windsor in Orange County, New York. Union College (Schenectady, New York), the first college to be chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York, was founded in 1795. The word "Union" in its name referred to its nondenominational character. R. Howard Wallace was a member of the Union College Class of 1850 who came from Little Britain. He was scheduled to give the Hebrew oration at the college's commencement ceremony that year, but according to a pencil notation on the program, it was omitted for lack of time.
