Scope and content

Collection consists mainly of patents issued for improvements to calendar clocks: patents issued to J.E. (James E.) Young of the Genoa Calendar Clock Company of Genoa, New York; to George R. Williams of Ithaca; and to Henry B. Horton of Ithaca. Also, letter from George W. Wood of George W. Wood & Company, agents of the middle states for the Ithaca Calendar Clock Company, to W.J. Hancox, offering him a deal on clocks to sell "in territory not already occupied." Also included is an advertisement for the Williams Brothers as manufacturers of agricultural implements, engines, boilers, machinery, iron and brass castings, and sellers of lumber.

Biographical / Historical

George R. Williams was one of the three Williams brothers, who ran a foundry and agricultural machinery manufacturing business in Ithaca, New York, also turning out portable and stationary steam engines. They manufactured the 35-horsepower steam engine in the Ithaca Calendar Clock Company's clock factory.
