Biographical / Historical

Beginning in 1889, Leslie A. Fenner's four years studying at Cornell University were marked by his interests in engineering, singing, and the University's Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Fenner's workbooks and exams indicate he studied Physics, Geometry, Chemistry, Mathematics, and basic French. Fenner pursued many of these subjects outside of class; he also collected volumes of the Sibley Journal of Engineering and a paper on the explosive potential of steam boilers. A member of the Cornell University Glee Club, Fenner traveled extensively to cities across the country and performed in concert with the Cornell University Banjo and Mandolin Clubs. Newspapers indicate that these performances were successful. During his time as a fraternity member, Fenner was the N. Y. Alpha Chapter delegate to Phi Delta Theta's provincial convention, and his interest in his fraternity would remain long after, until at least 1906. Fenner graduated from Cornell University in 1893. After graduating he traveled to New Zealand as the representative of the Osborne Farm Equipment Co..
