Scope and content

Memorabilia from the Jacoby family includes a large panorama photograph of Libe Slope and Ithaca, ca. 1910; five photographs of campus scenes; portfolio of campus scenes, ca. 1910; nine loose photographs of campus buildings and scenes; a copy of the 1928 Ellen Edmonson map; a print of the Library and Tower,1933. Also, "A True Cornell Civil Engineering Legacy: Three Jacoby Generations," with biographical sketches of Henry Sylvester Jacoby, Hurlbut Smith Jacoby, and Hurlbut Saylor Jacoby, by Greg Plank.

Biographical / Historical

Henry Sylvester Jacoby served as professor of bridge engineering in Civil Engineering from 1890 until his retirement in 1922. His three sons all attended Cornell: John Vincent (B.S. in Agriculture 1908); Hurlbut Smith (A.B. 1908, C.E. 1910); and Freeman Steel (B.S. in Agriculture 1910). Hurlbut Saylor Jacoby, the son of Hurlbut Smith, graduated from Cornell in 1935, also with a degree in Civil Engineering.
