Edwards, and to Gibbons's copy of his Decline and fall of the Roman Empire, also acquired by Edwards. The items include the "Edwards scrap" itself; a letter from F. G. Kenyon at the British Museum (dated 1930) confirming the scrap's authenticity; a letter to Edwards from Nicolas Barker (dated 1997) confirming the authenticity of Kenyon's letter; a reprint of G.W. Bowersock's article, "The Edwards Scrap" (2009); a review by Bowersock of David Wormersley's book, Gibbon and the "watchmen of the Holy City," reprinted from the journal Essays in criticism (January 2003); and letters and receipts from Swann Galleries, Maggs Bros., and others concerning the provenance and history of the "scrap" and the book.
