African highlife - afrobeat - palmwine music archive

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 8101

Scope and content

A large selection of rare original African LPs and 45s together with support materials, with an emphasis on the most iconic highlife and afrobeat artists. Afro beat, afro funk, highlife and palmwine music is represented in the collection by LP high points. Many albums were pressed in Britain, with the sleeve jackets produced on the African continent. In some instances, records from Ghana and Nigeria had different sleeve designs as the editions sold out; this is also represented in the collection. Countries represented include Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria. Artists represented include Sweet Talks (with the album "Spiritual Ghana"), Ofege ("Try And Love"), Black Children Sledge Funk Group, Atakora Manu and his Sound Engineers, Segun Okeji ("I Like Woman"), and Nelly Uchendu.
