Biographical / Historical

Arvid Bjerking was the editor of a newspaper in Kalmar, Sweden, and then continued to work as a columnist after his retirement. Dag Hammarskjöld was a Swedish economist, diplomat, writer, and Nobel Prize winner, who served as Secretary General of the United Nations from 1953 until his death in an airplane crash in 1961. A minute of silence was observed throughout Sweden on the day of his funeral.
