Biographical / Historical
In August 1894, L.J. and Adelaide Strail committed their children, Claude, Joseph, and Frank, to St. John's Catholic Orphan Asylum of Utica, New York, due to poverty. Claude Strail was subsequently transferred to St. Vincent's Industrial School in Utica. In about 1897, the school evidently filed a legal claim against the Board of Supervisors of Herkimer County for payment owed to them for the care of Claude Strail. The Board eventually paid the claim in early 1904.
