Scope and content

Collection consists of a manuscript score of Alessandro Scarlatti's Il trionfo dell'onore prepared by Hermine Williams. Il trionfo dell'onore was originally intended to be the basis of Volume X in the opera series published by Harvard University Press, but the series ended after volume IX. This edition was commissioned and performed by the San Francisco Opera in 1982 with an English language libretto written by Charles Kondek. Includes conductor's score, instrumental parts, and piano/vocal score.

Biographical / Historical

Hermine Weigel Williams received a Ph.D. in musicology from Columbia University and was a lecturer in Religion and the Arts at Hamilton College. She collaborated with Donald Jay Grout to write the third and fourth editions of A Short History of Opera. She also prepared The Operas of Alessandro Scarlatti, Volume VI: La Caduta de Decemviri for the Harvard University Press series of Scarlatti's operas.
