Biographical / Historical
In his will James S. Wadsworth left his land in Geneseo and Avon, New York to his children, including his daughter Elizabeth, who subsequently died. A dispute arose as to whether her infant son, Charles Murray, was entitled to inherit any of the land, since he was not a U.S. citizen. The case was appealed to the Court of Appeals for Livingston County.
