Biographical / Historical

Robert S. Livingston leased a farm in Columbia County, New York to Philip B. Miller and Adam Finkle. The yearly rent was to be 25 bushels of wheat, four hens, and two days' riding, payable on January 1 each year. When Miller and Finkle failed to keep up with the payments, Livingston sued. The defendants claimed that their landlord had never appointed a place for the payments to be made.
