Biographical / Historical

Walter King owned a floating steam elevator used for transferring grain from vessels into canal boats and the like. He claimed that the City of Buffalo wrongly appropriated the elevator in 1849 and destroyed it through negligence, costing him the profits he would otherwise have made from its use. King sued the city for the estimated amount of those profits plus interest.
