Scope and content
Indentures for the sale of land in Jefferson, Chemung County, New York. Most of them involve Samuel Watkins and his wife Cynthia Anne Watkins as the buyers or sellers; two of them involve William L. Denton. Other buyers or sellers include William P. Lee of Reading, Steuben County; and Alvin Coburn of Jefferson, selling land to Thomas Braham of Reading. Also included are legal documents incorporating the First Baptist Church and Society and the Methodist Episcopal Church in Jefferson, and an indenture whereby Samuel and Cynthia Watkins sold land to the First Presbyterian Church Society of Reading.
