Biographical / Historical
Royden Mandeville Vose was born on October 18, 1879 in Danby, N.Y, graduated from Ithaca High School, and attended Cornell for two years in the Arts course, graduating in 1902, with a medical degree. He interned at Bellevue Hospital and became a physician and surgeon in the Ithaca.During World War I, he served as a surgeon with the 77th Division, 306th Infantry, directed the Field Hospital for the 77th Division from Aug. 1, 1918-Oct. 15, 1918; and was Commanding Officer of the Operating Team Mobile Hospital #5 from Verdun to the Armistice; and Commanding Officer, Camp Hospital #70 in St. Florent, Dec. 1, 1918 to March 1, 1919. He was wounded in the Meuse Argonne campaign and received the Verdun Medal and the Purple Heart. He married Ethelyn Chase; they had one daughter, Elizabeth Ann He continued to practice medicine and surgery in Ithaca. He died on December 19,1950.

Elizabeth Vose Melchen was born in Ithaca on October 24, 1922. She graduated from Ithaca High School and from Cornell University, Class of 1943. At Cornell, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. In 1948, she married Edward Walter Melchen'44.
