Scope and content

Three pamphlets: First report of the Wading River Manufacturing and Canal Company, with the charter thereof (Philadelphia, 1837); An account of the Sunbury water-power Canal, with an estimate of the cost of finishing the same, and a synopsis of the charter (1842?); and The Sunbury Canal and Water-Power Company, and Sunbury Lumber and Car [sic] Manufacturing Company (Philadelphia, 1853). The second of these pamphlets (An account of the Sunbury ...) includes a map showing the proposed canal.

Biographical / Historical

The Sunbury Canal Company was incorporated on April 10, 1826; its name was changed to Sunbury Canal & Water Power Company on April 5, 1855. Its water power business was unsuccessful, and the enterprise was abandoned in 1858.
