Scope and content
Typewritten transcript of letters written to John Gould by various family members after the deaths of William, Sarah, and Charles Gould, on settling the estate and arranging for the surviving children to return to England. Includes three letters from William and Joan Gould to their nephew, John; one from James and Elizabeth Gould to their son; a note from the elder William Gould; and an unsigned note from a friend of the deceased William Gould.

Biographical / Historical
John Gould was a stone cutter in Newburgh, New York. His cousin William Gould (age 34), his wife Sarah (35), and their son Charles (4), who evidently lived nearby, died in 1838 from eating wild mushrooms. William's parents, William and Joan Gould, lived in North Molton, Devonshire, England.
