Scope and content

Approximately 45 items including manuscript records kept by Simeon Samson of expenses for two general stores, one of them in Preble, New York, from 1830-1833. Also, a photostat copy of a commission given to Simeon Samson (1776); typewritten copy of Capt. Simeon Samson's will (1787); photostats concerning George W. Samson's tavern; and photostat of a certificate of John S. Samson, life member of the Cortland County Agricultural Society.

Also, typewritten transcripts of 28 letters from and to Edward Payson Branch, a soldier in the 105th Ohio infantry regiment in the Civil War, several of them from his friend and fellow soldier Jasper E. Williams (1862-1864, 1869, 1878); and a typewritten copy of the Branch family tree. Other items include two photostats of notes payable to Jonathan Dana for money borrowed (July 30, 1779); and an issue of the Cortland Standard newspaper, featuring a long article on Cortland County Hospital (August 10, 1938).
