Scope and content

Scrapbook includes items relating to A. Stuart Angus and his time on campus from 1914-1918. Items include Cornell Corps of Cadets company assignment card; Cornell Crew; Cornell Daily Sun clippings particularly regarding athletics, track, football, crew; course schedule; fraternity items such as rushing rules, Lambda chapter of Theta Chi items including photos; flier for benefit concert to send the Big Red Band to the Michigan football game; exam booklets; tickets; Deutsches Theater, Lyceum Theater, Navy Day, University Orchestra, banquet and dance, Glee Banjo and Mandolin Clubs programs; Fatima cigarettes package; mud rush items including fabric covered in mud and photos; items covering President William Howard Taft and his visit to Cornell including photo of him with President Jacob Gould Schurman; other photographs of the campus and area and many items filled with autographs of other students from events.

Biographical / Historical

A. Stuart Angus received his A.B. from Cornell in 1918 where he studied chemistry and was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. After graduation he served wit the Naval Air Service at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a quartermaster. He worked for Texaco in the Marine Department. He married Helen Drake who had attended Cornell for a special architecture course. He was killed in the crash of United Airlines flight 624 in 1948 and was survived by his son Albert Stuart Jr. and daughter Margaret Drake.
