Scope and content

Leaves from a scrapbook, some with items glued to them and others accompanied by cut-out illustrations intended to be glued in. Illustrations include many political cartoons and patriotic labels and cards from the Civil War period, as well as some pictures for children, a few photographs of scenery and animals, and a few valentines. Also included is an envelope inscribed to Miss Bellknapp from W[illia]m Myers, 1910; and copies of the inscription on the flyleaf of a copy of Thomas Jefferson's Notes on Virginia, 1782, given by Jefferson to Colonel Humphries.

Biographical / Historical

George S. Brooks served in the Canadian army in World War I. He subsequently lived in Groton, New York. Colonel Humphries was an American colonel who served in the War of 1812.
