Biographical / Historical

Class of 1913. Jessel Stuart Whyte was born in Chicago where he attended University High School before coming to Cornell in 1909. He graduated in 1913, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Cornell, he played on the freshman and varsity football teams and varsity basketball. He belonged to Psi Upsilon, Quill & Dagger (senior honor society), and Aleph Samach (junior honor society), as well as Majura, Kappa Beta Psi, the Sunday Night Club, the Chicago Club, Eimex, and Masque. He also participated in the Sophomore Rush Committee, the Junior General Committee, and the Commencement Committee, and chaired the Senior Ball Committee. During World War I, he served as a captain in the 310th Engineers at St. Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne offensive. He became President and General Manager of the Macwhyte Company, manufacturers of wire rope in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
