Collection includes copy of his birth certificate (he was born in Estonia, the son of a foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune); typescript reminiscences of his time as a bomber pilot during World War II; a memoir, published in "Photosynthesis Research," 1988; a summary article on "Research on photosynthetic reaction centers from 1932 to 1987," published in "Photosynthesis Research," 2002; article by others inscribed to Clayton; and copies of personal photographs and photographs of some of his ceramic pieces.

Biographical / Historical

Rod Clayton was the Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor Emeritus in the Dept. of Plant Biology. He came to Cornell in 1966 as a full professor with a joint appointment in Plant Biology and applied physics. His research at Cornell focused on photosynthetic bacteria, specifically the use of spectroscopy to probe photochemical reactions and electron transport. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1975 and to the National Academy of Sciences in 1977.
