Cornell University Class of 1913. Leslie Clute was born in Corning and attended Elmira Free Academy (where he also played baseball) before winning a scholarship to come to Cornell in 1909. At Cornell, he was a member of Psi Upsilon, Quill & Dagger, Aleph Samach, and Dunstan. He also belonged to the Savage Club, Book & Bowl, Majura, Musical Clubs, and the Sunday Night Club, as well as the Sophomore Cotillion Committee, the Junior Smoker (chairman), the Senior General Committee and the Student Conference Committee. He was captain of the Freshman Baseball Team, played on the Varsity Team during his sophomore, junior, and senior years and was captain of the Varsity Team as a junior and senior. After graduation, he coached baseball at Cornell for two years. In 1916 he opened the Clute Motor Company in Elmira as a Ford dealership. In 1964, he received a Distinguished Citizen Award from the city of Elmira.
