Biographical / Historical
Peter Lounsbery came from Ulster County, N.Y. to Motts Corners (now Brooktondale), N.Y. in 1824 and ran a tannery and boot and shoe shop. He was elected the first justice of the peace of Motts Corners in 1839, but resigned in 1844 to accept a position as a Member of Assembly from Tompkins County, was elected a county judge in Tompkins County in 1846, and was elected supervisor of the Town of Caroline in 1860. He married Harriet Cantine, the daughter of Charles Cantine, one of the earliest settlers of the area.
