Scope and content

Government documents on the administration of formerly Dutch areas of the French Empire, issued variously by Louis Napoleon, the Département des Bouches de L'Issel, the Département des Bouches de la Meuse, the Préfecture des Bouches de la Meuse, and the French Grande Armée. Issues covered include government finances, grain transport, hunting permits, roads and bridges, conscription, liquidation of debts, a fund for the support of religious organizations, the transfer of real estate, and tax collection.

Biographical / Historical

With the growth of the French Empire under Napoleon, parts of the Netherlands were incorporated into France. Following the defeat of Napoleon, the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815) returned France to its prewar boundaries.
