Scope and content

Photographs of artifacts documenting general culture areas including Alaska and North Polar (67 images), Andean Coast and Highlands (47 images), Mexico (40 images), North American Plains (55 images), North American Southeast (58 images), North American Southwest (38 images), North American Woodlands (27 images), and North American Northwest Coast (73 images); all have provenance noted. Also 72 images mostly from The Art of the Eskimo and 24 photos and contact sheets, including Indian dolls that were photographed for her book Dolls Dolls Dolls.

Scope and content

20 contact sheets of art objects photographed in museum storage at the Denver Art Museum, the Museum of Man in Ottawa, etc.; 4 contact sheets with negatives; 3 black-and-white photographs of images of Indians as imagined by Europeans; and 56 photographs of Native American artifats, including wampum belts, birch-bark carvings, sand-painting, etc.

Biographical / Historical

Shirley Glubok Tamarin wrote a series of books for elementary school students on Indian art. For these books, she acquired photographs of relevant art objects from museums and cultural centers holding Native American collections.
