Scope and content

An American flag flown in honor of Cornell University Library, with a certificate certifying that it was flown at Camp Patriot, Kuwait Naval Base, Kuwait on January 23, 2008. "At the request of Boatswain's Mate Second Class Thomas Cotton, this flag was flown in your honor and is presented to you on behalf of the men and women of NAVELSG, Port Group GOLF, serving our nation." Signed by CMDCM Robert W. Tuten, USN, Command Master Chief, Port Group GOLF and CDR Jeffrey J. Tribiano, USN, Commanding Officer Port Group GOLF.

Biographical / Historical

Tom Cotton, a member of the Library staff , joined the Navy Reserves in 2005. He was summoned to active duty in July 2007, and he left for Kuwait in September 2007. As a petty officer second class with the Naval Expeditionary Logistic Support Group, he worked loading and unloading cargo ships in vessel operations at Kuwait's Port Shuaiba. He returned to the U.S. in May 2008.
