Biographical / Historical

Born Sylvia Brett, the youngest daughter of Reginald, Viscount Esher, married Sir Charles Vyner Brooke, the third and last white rajah of the kingdom of Sarawak. Sarawak had been given to the Brooke family in 1841 as a reward for the services of Sir James Brooke. In 1946, Sir Charles ceded Sarawak to Britain. In 1963, it became an autonomous state of the Federation of Malaysia.
