Scope and content

Painting of Mayan sculpture showing figures and heads of figures. Painting has provenance and publication notes written on it. The reverse describes the sculptures as being brought to the Peabody Museum at Harvard University from the Copan site in Honduras.

Creator

Biographical / Historical

Henry Sandham was a painter who worked in Canada until 1880; moved to England; and later established a studio in Boston. He signed works Hy Sandham. The Harvard Peabody Museum expeditions that brought the Maya sculptures in the painting to the United States took place in the 1890s.
