Review of A history of the Indian wars with the first settlers of the United States, particularly in New England
Scope and content
This review of a book was published in the Literary and Philosophical Repertory volume 1, 1813. This is a holographic copy of that review. The manuscript being reviewed was written by Reverend Daniel Clarke Sanders. The review raises theological issues and is quite disapproving of the book. The publication of this harsh, anonymous, review caused the suppression of the book and only a few copies were circulated. The book raised criticisms for its discussion of the cruelty to Indians in colonial England. Cf. Sabin, Bibl. Amer.
