Scope and content
Letter and two reports, transcript in Spanish, two versions of transcript in English. The first report is addressed to the Lord Governor and Captain General Don Diego de Vargas Zapata Lujan Ponce de Leon from Secretary of Government and War Domingo de la Barreda. It comes with a cover letter mentioning the Apache retreat into New Mexico because of French attacks on them from Luis Granillo. The second section is signed by Domingo de la Barreda, Luis Granillo, and Alonso Garcia. It describes the meeting with two Apache chiefs and their description of attacks led against the Apaches.

Biographical / Historical
Diego de Vargas was the Spanish governor of New Mexico. He was sent by the King of Spain in 1691 to conquer and resettle New Mexico for Spain after a Pueblo revolt in 1680 had driven the Spanish settlers away. He suppressed another Pueblo revolt in 1696 and led a campaign against the Apache Indians in 1704.
