Broadsides (sizable sheets of paper printed on one side and sheets of paper printed on one or both sides and folded) mostly from New York State on a variety of topics. Major subject categories include: advertisements, agriculture, ballads, clothing, cures and remedies, education, elections, entertainment (circus, excursions, men's talks, minstrel show, wild animal show), farm equipment, fraternal organizations, government, investments, lands, military, music, politics, railroads, religion, reward (wanted posters), social life (including theater), stores, temperance, theater, transportation and communication (mostly railroads, also stage coach), woman suffrage, World War I, and World War II. Also includes European advertisements and travel posters. Many items in the collection are printed pamphlets and ephemera.

General Note

Encapsulated World War I broadsides have been moved to Collection #4300. Most of the Cornell University items were added to #37-7-3406.

Processing Information

Collection was reprocessed in 2026. Titles of items were taken from the typed card catalogue entries, and original subject series were kept. The collection was compiled by the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections and its predecessor, Manuscripts and Archives.
