Biographical / Historical

Civil engineer. James Benton French graduated from Cornell with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1886. He worked as a bridge engineer for the Long Island Railroad and lived in Jamaica, N.Y. He married Flora Williams of Groton. French had two sons who were Cornellians: Thomas M. French '15 and William G. French '18 and a brother, Charles G. French '91.
