Scope and content

The collection consists mainly of a scrapbook containing many snapshots, clippings, and some correspondence. There is also a folder of additional material including the two year schedule, clippings, correspondence, snapshots, and a final report describing their experiences in Negros Oriental, Los Banos, and Siaton.

Biographical / Historical

John and Miriam Kennedy volunteered for the Peace Corps taking a leave of absence from Oberlin College administration. They were assigned to an elementary teaching post in Negros Oriental in the Philippines. They formed a night school for graduates of the 6th grade, mainly English courses. They were also assigned to train teachers in Los Banos, and taught a summer course at Teachers Camp in Baguio. They also helped found the Siaton Reading Center with many of their own books. The reading center later became a municipal public library.
