Scope and content

Forty-five panels depicting the architectural evolution and design of the Carl A. Kroch Library. Construction photographs and four mounted photographs of the interior of the building, looking down to the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. Also, documentation for interviews held on campus, June 1989 with construction management firms and architectural firms; and consultant's report and record of moving the exedra at the south end of Goldwin Smith Hall. Videotapes of construction blasting, July through October 1990. Digital copies of videos and photographs. Also, a glacial scarred rock that escaped the blast curtain during construction and ended up in the Arts Quad (mu-5005).

The 45 architectural poster board panels that are in mapcases are restricted to permission of the University Archivist.

Biographical / Historical

The Carl A. Kroch Library opened in 1992 to house the Cornell University Library's Asia Collections and the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections. Kroch Library exists only as a physical building, not as an administrative entity. Administratively, the Asia Collections and the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections are both units of Cornell University Library.
