Includes letters (1929-1936) in English, French, and Italian from Perry Cornell Dechert (later known as Pierre François Cornell-Dechert) to Selma Marian Urband (later Mrs. Willis W. Pratt), mainly dating before 1933 and concerning Dechert's friends and travels in France while he was studying at the Université de Delaware (Section d'Etudes a l'Etranger) and the Sorbonne and later teaching at the Collège de Normandie; two letters (1929) from Perry Cornell Dechert to Edith Cornell Dechert, his mother, concerning his first trip to France, his impressions of France and the people he met there; a letter (1929) to Mrs. Wallingford Riegger, S. Marian Pratt's former neighbor, from Perry Cornell Dechert, concerning his trip to France and his plans for the following winter; a letter (1933) to S. Marian Pratt from Edith Cornell Dechert concerning the latter's situation in New York City, and poems by Dechert and photographs of him and his family. Also fifty-five letters (1935-1957) to Mrs. Pratt from pianist Ethel Newcomb (ca.1876-1959) concerning the writer's philosophy of life, her views on World War II, and her apprehension at being forgotten by the public, and an undated letter from S. Marian Pratt to Willis W. Pratt (B.A. '30, M.A. '31, Ph.D. '35) describing her first meeting with Ethel Newcomb.
