Undated autobiographical fragment, which was begun by Lewis W. Sturtevant at age seven and continued for his sons, describes his childhood, education, and work as an accountant for his family's business. The account was never completed.

Biographical / Historical
Born in 1812 in Winthrop, Maine, Lewis W. Sturtevant descended from Samuel Sturtevant who landed at Plymouth in 1624, was a sickly child with stunted growth. He married Marry Haight Legett, a Quaker, and fathered three sons, one of whom was Edward Lewis Sturtevant, agricultural scientist. He and his wife both died when their sons were still children.
