Scope and content

Three diaries of Ansel and William Blodgett. Volumes 1 and 3 (1864-1865; 1869) were kept by Ansel Blodgett, and Volume 2 (1865) was kept by William Blodgett. The entries records daily farm chores and Sunday church meetings at the Christian Church at Ingleside.

Biographical / Historical

The Blodgett family owned and maintained a large farm in the village of Ingleside in the town of Prattsburg, New York. Ansel Blodgett (August 19, 1811-April 16, 1872) was born in Gorham, N.Y. and moved with his family to the farm in Ingleside in 1846. His son William Dudley Blodgett (June 6, 1845-March 9, 1920) was a student at the Naples Academy in Naples, N.Y. and attended bookkeeping classes at night in 1865. He was living in a room in Naples with some fellow students at the time, although he still worked on the family farm.
