Scope and content

The first volume contains the record book of monthly meeting minutes including the Church covenant and list of members (1832-1884); the second volume contains an alphabetical list of names, vital statistics and membership data extracted from church records (1832-1979) and a reprint of an article giving a brief history of the Morton Community Church which succeeded the Free Will Baptist Church. The final reel contains the constitution of the Union Society and minutes of annual meetings at which the trustees were elected (1832-1890).

Biographical / Historical

The church was organized as the First Free Will Baptist Church in Murray and Clarkson. The church joined with the Episcopal Methodists of North Murray to form the Union Society of Free Will Baptists and Episcopal Methodists in order to erect a meeting house. This society met until 1890. The church organized as the Free Will Bapist Church of East Kendall in 1877. It erected its own building in 1877. The village changed its name to Morton in 1895.
