Scope and content

Collection consists largely of genealogical and historical notes, many of which were used by Schuyler in his COLONIAL NEW-YORK. Included are notes, copies of baptismal, marriage, and other certificates, and wills for the Schuyler, Van Cortlandt, Bleeker, Livingston, Cuyler, Wessels, and other families of New Netherlands and the Province of New York, translations by Evelyn Schuyler Schaeffer of Dutch manuscripts, a number of copies of papers relating to the dispute between Nicholas Van Rensselaer and Jacob Leisler, copies of maps and surveys (1732-1797), letters from B. Fernow, S. Alofson, and Schuyler concerning genealogy, and 44 original letters (1776-1777) from Harmanus Schuyler to General Philip Schuyler relating to the construction of Skenesborough and "battoes," and to local military problems. Included also are some Cornell University items.
