Biographical / Historical
In 1812 Elder Elnathan Finch, a resident, led in the organization of a Baptist Church. By 1815 the church had a log meeting house, although after a few years meetings were held frequently at a schoolhouse near the home of one of the members. Reverend Finch, who became the Society's first pastor was succeeded by Mr. William House, Ezra D. Owen, Jonathan Finch and John Ferris. The church and many members joined the Baptist Church at Branchport. The church was part of the Steuben Association.
