Ownership and Custodial History
The two figures were given to the Wason Collection at Cornell University by Mrs. Madison Bentley in 1956 who inherited them from Mrs. Harris J. Ryan. Mrs Ryan was given the figures by Theodore Bodde in 1935 and 1937. According to an accompanying handwritten note, one of the figures came from Tayanfu in Shansi Province and had been created in ca. 1890.
