Letter to the two 1956 winners of the Class of '94 Memorial Debate Competition in which she explains how the Memorial was established and the role of the co-ed class members in the decision; she provides vivid comparison between the women students of that day and the present: "The women of the class rather inclined towards voting with the intellectuals, but they were timid in those days, about getting to their feet in class meetings and expressing themselves on any subject."

Biographical / Historical
Cornell University Class of 1894. Harriet Chedie Connor graduated from Cornell in 1894. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, Phi Beta Kappa, and served as the first woman editor of the Era (1893). In 1894 she became the first woman to win the Woodford Prize in oration for "The Letter and the Spirit" about witchcraft [see Cornell Daily Sun, June 21, 1894 for copy of the prize oration). Her B.A. thesis was "An Inquiry into the Extent of the Witch Persecutions in Germany" 1894. She married Herbert D. Brown in 1897. She worked as a journalist, collaborated with her husband on reports to Congressional and other committees. She participated in missions to the Virgin Islands and Panama. She was active in the woman suffrage movement, and, in 1913, she edited the Official Program of the Woman's Suffrage Procession, in Washington DC. She was also active in movements for world disarmament and peace.
