Mainly letters by George K. Collins of Company I, 149th Regiment of New York State Volunteers, and his family of Syracuse; they describe army life and campaigns of the Civil War and the Battles of Chancellorville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, and others, and comment on tactics, policies, and commanding officers. Also, a blacksmithing account book (1849-1853), account books of Dr. John Collins of Spafford listing calls, medications, and treatments (1844-1846), and accounts of an insurance agent in Syracuse (1868-1878).
