Letters concerning family matters and describing the everyday life of people who owned and operated small farms in upstate New York during the nineteenth century (Steuben County); includes letters from Henrietta Harwood (Wells), a school teacher, to her sister Helen Church, concerning her life as a teacher (pay, pupils, board, etc.), life in California, and economic conditions there. Letter from Julius Lichenstein to William Enos on methods of salesmanship in the West for selling advertising goods. Deeds, mortgages, bonds, assessment notices of Church family and their neighbors; pamphlets, marriage certificates, lodge membership certificate, accounts, and business letters.
