Scope and content

Typed manuscript, first and second runs of galley proofs, page proofs, and revisions of galley proofs of Blumenthal's book Typographic Years: A Printer's Journey Through a Half Century, 1925-1975 (New York: Frederic C. Beil, 1982; limited ed. New York: Grolier Club [printed by Stinehour Press, Lunenberg, Vt.], 1982), with holograph corrections by Blumenthal. Also included is correspondence between Blumenthal and Donald D. Eddy relating to the book, including a letter from Blumenthal dated November 12, 1982, describing other parts of the process by which the book was written and published. Other items include publicity from the Grolier Club for its limited edition of the book, and an invitation to a 1986 reception for Blumenthal at the State University of New York at Purchase, sponsored by its Center for Editions.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph Blumenthal was an American printer, author of books on fine printing, and founder of the Spiral Press. Donald D. Eddy succeeded George Healey as the head of the Department of Rare Books at Cornell University Library, and published several bibliographies.
